Did you know how to play any musical instruments before you joined Dexter?
That’s funny that you say that because no, I didn’t. There were 3 other guys there and they had guitars in their hands. I was clueless. I was the last guy and I told them that I hadn’t touched a guitar since college…and they didn’t mind. After they hired me, they gave me guitar lessons for the next 3 months. I had a guitar lesson 3 days a week for 3 months and it was great.

When you got the role did you know that you would play Debra’s love interest?
I didn’t. I had just finished a film, Nailed and I came into the audition. I knew I was a guy that someone would be interested in but I didn’t know who it would be with. I came in really relaxed and there was a connection in the room and it was great.

How many episodes in are you guys when it comes to filming the new season?
Right now we are working on the 5th episode of the 4th season. We got picked up for Season 5 too for those who don’t know. All I can tell you about the character this season is that we get deeper and more involved with his character. Deb moves into Anton’s apartment, that’s all I can say.

Regardless of what will actually go on, what would you like to see happen with your character and Debra?
I would really like for Debra to find love and stick with it because she is such a troubled character. Anton is very zen in comparison to Debra who is always amped up like she drank 5 redbulls. So in that sense, I think they compliment each other. I think they are really good for each other.

Tell me about your experience working on the political satire, Nailed.
We shot it in South Carolina during the summer and it was fantastic. It should be out next summer. I had a lot of fun and I hope people enjoy it as well!

What was it like working with director, David O. Russell?
He was a lot of fun! He is genius. He knows what he wants, let’s you explore, and keeps you on edge. I found him very exciting to work with and I would work with him in a heartbeat.

Was there much research done for your role in Mother & Child, I know it has to do with adoption?
There is a certain amount that I can bring to the role because I am married in real life and in the film, I am married to Kerry Wahington. I did draw on my own experience that my wife and I went through, which was a miscarriage. I did my own investigation on miscarriages after my wife experienced one and I didn’t realize how common it is. I also felt a deeper connection with certain people in my family who went through the same experience. I have been touched on some level so I didn’t do much research for this role. I can definitely connect with my character though.

What was it like working with Kerry Washington?
She was great! Rodrigo García directed the film and when I went into ADR, he told me that the work on the movie was fantastic. Then he said, “Don’t let your wife see it.” He said it was hot and everyone else in the room said, “hot!” They wouldn’t let me see it but supposedly the love scene between Kerry and I in the film is something else.

If there were any doubts as to who or what will be the focal point of the upcoming fourth season of the Showtime dark comedy Dexter, the new and so far only promotional photo that surfaced should take care of them. The still unborn Baby Dexter (or Harrison) is shown on the teaser donning a bib that says, “My dad is killer,” in obvious reference to the new phase in the lives of Dexter (Michael C. Hall) and Rita (Julie Benz).

Also on Dexter’s season 4, the series’ titular character will be facing a new deadly serial killer dubbed Trinity Killer for his proclivity to kill in three’s, a character to be played by Tony-winning actor John Lithgow. Also joining the cast is actress Courtney Ford, set to play a curious reporter to follow the series of murders by Trinity.

Filming for the heavily anticipated return of the lovable serial killer recently kicked off this month, with the previously announced premiere of season 4 pegged at September 27, a Sunday. The 12-episode season 4 will be followed by another 12-episoder, ordered early on by Showtime, showing its confidence on Dexter.

Dexter EP Sara Colleton previously mentioned that Dexter will try to “have it all” in season 4, as he tries to juggle his personal life, work, and a “dark passenger.”

“In other words, can Dexter have it all? Which is something all of us grapple with every day of our lives. So we’re taking something that is a very human dilemma and putting it through the prism of Dexter’s special needs.”

For his part, Hall is quite aware of the enormous amount of change that his disturbed character is set to undergo on the upcoming season, but don’t count on him changing soon.

“Dexter and Rita have a new home that they’re sharing together, with Astor and Cody and Dexter’s new baby son, Harrison. And Dexter hasn’t been alleviated. His compulsion remains. I don’t know if we’d be able to keep our audience if Dexter woke up one day and said, ‘I don’t really feel like killing anybody anymore.”

Surely, no self-respecting Dexter fan would like that to happen, too, Michael.

Dexter has found its next Big Bad.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that John Lithgow is joining the season 4 cast as Walter Simmons, an unassuming suburbanite who has been living a duel life as one of America’s most prolific and deadliest serial killers. When the mad man (who is dubbed the “Trinity Killer” because he always kills in threes) relocates to Miami, Dexter becomes obsessed (or inspired?) by his efficient killing methods and ability to evade capture for almost three decades. (This is the new antagonist role exec producer Sara Colleton teased back in April.)

Dexter’s fourth season premieres on Sept. 27. Oh, almost forgot, bonus casting scoop: Keith Carradine is reprising his role as Deb’s daddy figure ex, F.B.I. Special Agent Frank Lundy for multiple episodes.
